First of all I wish everybody merry X-Mas.

Some time ago I posted a blog about the SkyLine pack which I developed for Torque3D, which you can read here.
Because it took more time than I expected (due to things I definately wanted in it), I decided that the pack would not come free. But I have changed my mind a little, if the pack would raise a certain amount of money, I would change it and release it under the MIT-license, so it can be added to the engine by everybody. Therefore I have started a crowd funding campaign to complete the amount of cash I have in mind to make the SkyLine pack MIT-licensed. You can find the campaign here.

To show you what the pack can, here's the vid again:

Again, the campaign can be found here.

If you are unable to contribute, I would be grateful if you spread the word around.

Thanks for reading.

Richard.

Seems cool and I would be willing to contribute a few euros, but what if the 500€ are not reached? It's a "flexible funding" campaign, meaning you will get the any money pledged regardless of reaching the goal... so what happens with my money if the 500€ are not reached?

Cool stuff but sorry, it's against my principles to pay/charge for open source projects. Donations are another matter tho.

Risks
As said before: the SkyLine pack is a finished and working project, but it is now copyrighted. If the campaign fails you still have your own copy of the pack (and therefore set under the Flexible Funding type: no refunds). If the campain is successful the pack will be immediately released under the MIT-license and may be added to the Torque3D engine under this MIT-license

Ahh, count me out then... I would have preferred a all or nothing approach because what good will having a piece of non-freely licensed code do?

oh! I thinks you need to add more time to raise 500€. Hey what about this " the pack will be immediately released under the MIT-license and may be added to the Torque3D engine under this MIT-license", why "may be"? will be added? you will be helping to the merge? because a lot of products go to MIT and then dies.

I have to say as a contributor to T3D, i find it very difficult to fork out money when i see how much effort others put in for free (no i don't mean myself). Anyway's it's a free world and everyone is entitled to do as they please.

I think this approach is a step in the right direction, almost any game developer spends lots of money into hardware, software, asset packs, contract works etc if everyone spends a little into campaigns like these, it will benefit all in the end.
