I skimmed through it. Lots of useful information in there but holy hell 191 pages:

Will likely use it as reference though when I get back to working on Foliage.

- What are your plans regarding Foliage tools?

Do you have any plans for anything similar to Unreal Engine procedural foliage toolset?

: first versions of foliage will just be simple manual placement tool. I don't think I'm going to tie foliage placement to landscapes, so you'll be able to attach foliage to anything. It will just be a simple painting tool with brush sizes and spacing options. From there when time permits I'll take suggestions and make it better. First we make it work, then we make it better.

Will we ever see collision detection on foliage? That should be great.

You mentioned the painter. The idea is good. You could incorporate in one brush multiple foliage models, like blades of grass, or even trees and grass.
I think there is an equation for the correct dispersion of grass around trees :D

One good think to have in the painter tool is the random function. You do not want the vegetation elements to be painted in the same pattern. A random function for the distribution would be nice.

Randomized placement is no problem. I may end up drawing a distinction between small and large foliage. Large foliage like trees and rocks can have collision but grass and light brush won't. At least not meaningful collision. For grass I may be able to add an option so the blades bend away from the player when it's close. That's about the best you can do, beyond that collision with grass is too expensive for what you get.
